Leith Wine Cafe To Launch Next Week
Leith’s first wine cafe is set to open at The Shore next Tuesday.
Already a hub for numerous popular restaurants and bars, the trendy area next to the Waters of Leith will soon be home to Toast, owned by Zak Hanif and staffed by skilled operators such as head chef Lizzie Arber and sommelier Seli Shama. The four menus – breakfast, lunch, evening and weekend brunch – will have seasonal produce as their foundation.
Open seven days early till late, the new venue promises to serve ‘simple yet imaginative food’ and wine that’s ‘biodynamic, organic and natural’. A tasting room will open at a later date and there will be a total of 64 covers – 44 inside and 20 outside.
Said Zak, who also owns Printworks Coffee in Leith with business partner Aytac Gul, “Toast’s philosophy is to welcome everyone at all times.
“One table may be enjoying flat whites and cake, whilst the next are drinking craft beers, and another is sharing a charcuterie plate with a bottle of wine. The uniting factor is the unfaltering quality of everything we will be serving.”
Lizzie Arber, who has moved north especially to take charge of the kitchen at Toast, has worked in a number of cafes and bars and specialises in vegan and vegetarian dishes.
