Bols launches global hunt for next Genever Pioneer
Dutch spirit brand Bols is inviting bartenders to compete in the ninth edition of its global bartending competition, Bols Around the World: The Bols Genever Edition in order to find the next Genever Pioneer.
The winning bartender will develop greater knowledge of both the Genever cocktail spirit and bartending skills around the world by learning to distill with the Lucas Bols Master Distiller in Amsterdam, visiting masterclasses at top American cocktail festival, Tales of the Cocktail, and will even develop their ice-carving skills in Japan.
The company says the Bols Genever Pioneer will possess “strong commercial acumen and demonstrate extensive Bols Genever knowledge, an experimental drive, a courageous spirit and a sense of passion.”
Online heats start in November with regional finals taking place in February 2017. The grand final will be held in Amsterdam from 8-10 May 2017 where finalists will showcase their Bols Genever concepts in Bols Genever Street in the heart of the city.
Lucas Bols CEO, Huub van Doorne, said, “Pioneering is at the heart of Bols and dates back to the creation of Bols Genever in 1664. BATW, now in its ninth year focuses on inspiration and education and provides an environment for bartenders to grow their international network and showcase their talent.”
Bols has more than 20 spirit brands in its portfolio. It began distilling genevers – The Netherlands’ national spirit category – in 1664. Today, it produces two genevers: Bols Genever and Bols Genever Barrel Aged, both of which follow the original 1820 Lucas Bols recipe made from malt wine and a range of distilled botanicals.
Bartenders can enter the competition via www.bolsaroundtheworld.com by 31 October.
