LONGER opening hours and cheaper drink could be the mainstay of nightclubs across Aberdeen after a ruling by the council allowed a bar to stay open until 3am.
That could see nightclubs staying open until 6am serving cheaper drink to regain their trading edge.
The row started after a license extension was granted to the city’s ‘Dusk Cocktail Bar’ in Langstane Place, by the council’s licensing board, which club owners felt impinged on their operations.
The bar successfully applied for the operating license until 3am at weekends, with the move to grant extended opening hours resulting in the council facing a backlash from nightclubs.
Other bars throughout the city have now followed suit, applying for later licenses, which has raised concerns over the knock-on effect for the nightclub trade and city-centre policing.
