Leading trade body says new legislation not worth the cost

THE cost of establishing a new system to legislate adult entertainment venues in Scotland would be too much, according to a leading trade group.

A Scottish Government consultation on the regulation of such venues, like lap dancing clubs, suggested they should be controlled separately from the sale of alcohol.

But, despite supporting this approach, the Scottish Beer & Pub Association (SPBA) said the cost of establishing a new system would be too much, with the ‘comparatively small’ number of lap dancing clubs meaning it was not worth the extra cost.

Chief executive of the association, Patrick Browne said the issue should be handled under existing existing public entertainment licensing arrangements and a new regulatory system should not be pursued.
