Punch Taverns have their head in the ‘clouds’ to boost profits

BAR operators, Punch Taverns are to use wireless technology to improve their food profits, after teaming up with software firm CaterCost.

The partnership will see Punch use ‘cloud’ technology at their venues, allowing customers to build their menus from a costed core menu of ‘pub classics’. Regular updates to the menus are scheduled for seasonal variations and price fluctuations.?

CaterCost’s system was designed for the pubco and is also thought to allow Punch operators to add in their own data on suppliers and recipes. Punch believe this will see customers opting for meals using local produce and signature dishes.

Punch Taverns estimate around 750,000 meals are served in their venues a week, with the software providing nutritional information helping publicans to build dishes from scratch.

Head of catering development at Punch, Alan Todd said an profit increase of just 5p on those figures could see profits increase by almost £2m a year for the operators.

He added: “So far, the system has been well-received.”
