Brewing expert Professor Geoffrey Palmer, Scotland’s first black professor, has been knighted for his services to human rights, science and charity. The brewing and cereals expert is a professor emeritus at Edinburgh’s Heriot-Watt University. Food writer Lady Claire Macdonald has also received an OBE. The self-taught cook who runs Kinloch Lodge on the Isle of Skye with her husband Lord Macdonald received her OBE for for services to the hospitality industry and to charity in Scotland, particularly Marie Curie Cancer Care.
