Stewart Milne Purchases Marcliffe Hotel

Marcliffe Hotel

Aberdeen’s iconic Marcliffe Hotel is soon to be purchased by housebuilder Stewart Milne, who intends to transform the five-star site into luxury homes. The hotel had originally been sold to developers who planned to demolish the site and build offices, a restaurant and a spa. These plans will now be withdrawn.

The news comes just days after it was revealed that The Marcliffe’s annual profits had more than doubled, with accounts filed with Companies House showing a 10 per cent increase in turnover from £6.7 million to £7.5 million in the 12 months to the end of September. Despite this success owner Stewart Spence is retiring, prompting the sale of the hotel.

Stewart Milne Group have confirmed that it has “acquired an option to buy the land” on which The Marcliffe Hotel stands. A statement said, “The five-star housebuilder believes that the site is ideally suited for premium residential homes to complement the local area and help to address the shortfall in executive homes within the city.

“The Group will be consulting with the city council and engaging with the local community before any proposals are developed.”
