Sygn in Edinburgh has been announced as a finalist for the Kraken Black Spiced Rum Cocktail Bar of the Year prize at the 2014 DRAM Scottish Licensed Trade Awards, which take place at The Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow on Monday July 7th.

The Kraken Black Spiced Rum Award seeks to reward bar operators whose bartenders are well trained, imaginative and good with customers. The judges looked for expertly-made cocktails, a willingness to experiment and a good knowledge of spirits, including of course rum. Each bar also had to prepare a unique Kraken-based cocktail for our judges’ inspection.

Situated in the West End of Edinburgh, Sygn enjoys a superb reputation for both its quality of food and intriguing wine list, though in this case it’s the extensive and creative cocktail list that has brought the bar acclaim from DRAM’s judges. The mixologist at Sygn will be hoping that their entry was enough to win the award against some extremely skilled competitors.

The awards, dubbed the licensed trade ‘Oscars,’ are organised by licensed trade magazine, DRAM. Now in their 19th year, they are the longest-established awards of their kind in Scotland, recognising excellence in Scotland’s bar, restaurant and hospitality industries.
