The Meat Bar Nominated for Industry Award

The Meat Bar in Glasgow has been announced as a finalist for the Kraken Black Spiced Rum Cocktail Bar of the Year prize at the 2014 DRAM Scottish Licensed Trade Awards, which take place at The Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow on Monday July 7th.

The Kraken Black Spiced Rum Award seeks to reward bar operators whose bartenders are well trained, imaginative and good with customers. The judges looked for expertly-made cocktails, a willingness to experiment and a good knowledge of spirits, including of course rum. Each bar also had to prepare a unique Kraken-based cocktail for our judges’ inspection.

The Meat Bar’s entry was called ‘La Fiera’ – ‘the wild beast’ in Spanish. The name references the mythological sea creature that The Kraken takes its name from, ass well as the Spanish ingredients in the cocktail, such as paprika and chorizo-infused rum, that combine to give the drink a wild kick. The Meat Bar is established as one of Glasgow’s finest cocktail venues, and owner Graham Swankie will hope that his venue can scoop the award ahead of their Edinburgh competitors.

The awards, dubbed the licensed trade ‘Oscars,’ are organised by licensed trade magazine, DRAM. Now in their 19th year, they are the longest-established awards of their kind in Scotland, recognising excellence in Scotland’s bar, restaurant and hospitality industries.
