Driftwood in Glasgow has been announced as a finalist for the Diageo Award for Social Responsibility prize at the 2014 DRAM Scottish Licensed Trade Awards, which take place at The Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow on Monday July 7th.
The Diageo Award for Social Responsibility seek to reward bars that have developed good relationships with local police, community safety partnerships, community groups, licensing boards and licensing forums to help minimise alcohol-related crime and disorder in the local area. The DRAM judges were looking for evidence of staff training, to the extent that they were confident and competent in addressing difficult situations. They were also on the look out for pubs that went the extra mile in promoting responsible drinking.
Driftwood is a lively, independently owned student bar that has operated successfully for over twelve years, and its management team impressed DRAM’s judges with their commitment to attention to licensing laws and consideration for the safety and welfare of the students who frequent their bar.
The awards, dubbed the licensed trade ‘Oscars,’ are organised by licensed trade magazine, DRAM. Now in their 19th year, they are the longest-established awards of their kind in Scotland, recognising excellence in Scotland’s bar, restaurant and hospitality industries.
