New owners for The Doublet

This morning (Monday 2nd November) marks the end of an era at Glasgow’s  Doublet Bar – as new owners, Paul and Claire Butler, have now taken over the pub.  The duo currently run the Saramago Café Bar at the Centre for Contemporary Arts.  Former owner Alistair Don, whose family have owned the pub for 50 years, put the pub up for sale a few months ago.

Alistair who retiring told DRAM, “Paul and Claire have told me they plan to keep the pub as a pub, which I am happy about. Obviously they will be making a few changes, but they are also keeping on the staff. I wish them all the very best.”

He continues, “I presided over my last pub quiz last week, and I felt a bit emotional when it finished. I’ll still be popping in for a drink on a Friday, but in the meantime I am off to Spain for a well deserved holiday.”

Located on Park Road, the bar is in a prominent location in the West End and has been a popular haunt for years. The sale of the pub is was handled by Smith & Clough Business Associates.
