David Beckham is set to experience all of the intense emotions of an entire football season in just 60 seconds as he stars in Sky Sports brand new TV advert to promote the Premier League.
But the star of the show will not just be the football legend, as Beckham shares the starring role with another beacon of British culture – the pub.
In the newest bid by Sky to encourage fans to catch the game at Sky Sports venues, the communal atmosphere of pubs is highlighted to show that they are the ideal destination to enjoy the range of emotions induced by live sport.
Sky’s newest advert is yet another example of the ongoing commitment from the company in driving custom for the on-trade.
The advert, which is directed by award winning Frederic Planchon, features Beckham starting his day with a morning jog only to find himself running through scenes from ten months of football.
We follow him as he endures changing weather conditions, celebrates with fans, dashes in and out of a pub and at one stage is chased by a dog – all experiences that football fans will no doubt be familiar with.
These contrasting situations reflect the exciting unpredictability of Premier League football – witnessed clearly last season with the incredible rise to victory by Leicester City.
The in-pub atmosphere is captured at Flanagan’s Pub in Battersea, South West London, a Sky Sports licensed venue.
David Beckham, who has worked with Sky since 2013, commented:“Anything can happen in the Premier League and this ad by Sky is a really fun way of showing that. Filming the ad was great and the finished piece is a really clever way of showing that you never know what might happen in football.”
The managing director of Sky Sports, Barney Francis, also added: “It’s our biggest ever season on Sky Sports, so we wanted one of the world’s biggest stars to help us tell that story. David does a brilliant job of encapsulating in one minute what football fans experience in an entire season and I’m sure people will enjoy it when it’s released. Never has the Premier League been so unpredictable and Sky Sports viewers can enjoy unrivaled coverage as the drama unfolds.”
The advert premieres on 21st July at Midnight across Sky Sports digital outlets, including skysports.com as well as Beckham’s Facebook page, before being shown on TV from 22 July.
