Scottish beer awards

Scotland’s top beers have been revealed at the Scottish Beer Awards, with BrewDog, Tennents and Tempest Brewing Co among those winning big.

The inaugural awards, sponsored by Aldi, saw breweries large and small from across the country gather in Edinburgh to toast the country’s best beers last week.

A total of 30 prizes were given out on the night. Borders-based brewer Tempest Brewing Co took home the title of Scottish Brewery of the Year and was also awarded Growth Business of the Year.

Ellon-based BrewDog won two business awards for Excellence in Marketing for their Equity for Punks IV, and Innovation of the Year for their DIY Dog recipe manual.

New World Odyssey, a blonde ale from Stirlingshire brewer, Fallen, was named Best Lager, while Caledonian Brewery’s Coast to Coast won Gold in the popular Pale Ale category.

Tennents scooped Beer Destination of the Year for The Tennent’s Visitor Centre at its Wellpark Brewery in Glasgow.

Hilary Jones, chair of the judging panel, said, “The Scottish Beer Awards recognises the fantastic range of beers now brewed in Scotland. With such a large amount of high-quality premium product available, the brewing industry in Scotland can continue its growth in the UK and internationally with great confidence.

“Winning a Scottish Beer Award is a tremendous badge of honour and we wish all our winners and finalists the best of success.”
