Beer, food and electronic music will collide when Heverlee celebrate Belgian National Day with a three-day micro festival in Edinburgh later this month.
The festivities, which will begin on Friday 21st July (Belgian National Day) and continue through to Sunday the 23rd, will take place at New Waverly Arches. C-listed and dating back to 1875, the arches have been redeveloped as part of the £150 million New Waverly development in the Capital’s Old Town.
The event is free to enter and will boast immersive projections, street art, a pop-up cinema and a menu of Belgian-inspired dishes including waffles, moules-frites and steak-frites, laid on by the people behind Leith street food market The Pitt. Local record label Firecracker Recordings have curated the musical offering, with star billing going to DJs Eclair Fifi and Charlie Bones of London radio station NTS.
As if that wasn’t enough, Heverlee will be also be selling their premium beer in 330ml cans and 660ml bottles for the very first time, ahead of a national launch for both in the on-trade later this year.
The brand are aiming to emulate the success of ‘Heverlee at Tontine’, the beer cafe they operated at Glasgow’s Merchant City Festival in 2015.
Wendy Espie, Heverlee’s Senior Brand Manager, remarked, “Since the success of Glasgow’s Heverlee at Tontine in 2015, we’ve been really keen to run another event and we can’t wait to open Heverlee at New Waverley on Belgian National Day.”
She continued, “With a carefully selected line-up of food, drink, music and art we’re sure the event is going to be a real hit with beer lovers in the city. We look forward to inviting the trade down to enjoy a pint, or even a can, and experience the event for themselves.”
The news follows on from Heverlee’s recent announcement of a ‘De Kampioen’ competition to find a Scottish bartender best able of delivering their perfect serve.
More details of the line-up will be announced on Heverlee’s social media channels in the build-up to the event.
