Family Fortunes: The Murray Family

THE MURRAY FAMILY
CRU HOLDINGS,
INVERNESS

Cru Holdings is headed up by co-directors and brothers Scott and Grant Murray – and long- term family friend, Kenneth Loades (pictured left to right: Grant, Scott and Kenneth). The company was started in 2007 and it’s historically a bar and restaurant operator.

Cru now both own and manage licensed premises, as well as holding interests in the travel industry with two travel brands under its belt, managed by Scott’s wife, Sarah, plus various media, technology and publishing interests.

In its portfolio are Inverness outlets Angels Share, which they acquired earlier this year, Bar One, Scotch & Rye, and The Keg and Dows Bar. The group just sold High Spirits in Falkirk to Kingsway Inns Ltd.

Said Scott about their recipe for success, “I suppose it’s about having a clear work/home divide, and learning not to take business home. We often disagree about the way something should be done and on occasion it can get tricky, however we all have the best interests of the business at heart, and our passion sometimes manifests itself in a heated discussion. We are all happy to leave that at the door at 5 p.m.,
and what was a disagreement at 4.30 p.m., will be left on the shelf until the next day, where an evening of reflection often allows the situation to be resolved.”
