The Mercat Grill near Musselburgh in East Lothian has started a food bank collection point to help local people and pooches in crisis, in collaboration with East Lothian Foodbank and the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, respectively.  The bar and restaurant is calling upon locals and those in surrounding areas to kindly make food donations, which can easily be dropped into the Mercat Grill at the collection points.
Graham Blaikie, owner of the Mercat Grill said, “Unfortunately, this time of year is not full of fun, festivities and food for everyone – with animals also experiencing a difficult time too.   So, we’re really keen to play our part in helping local people as well as dogs and cats in crisis by creating our food bank collection points.  We would gratefully appreciate any donations you can spare, particularly tinned food and packets of dog and cat food.  Let’s all do our bit to help our fellow locals, who really need it, particularly at this time of year.”
In 2018, East Lothian Foodbank helped 4,945 local people with a food parcel and 1,822 children were amongst those referred to the charity last year.
