We are deeply saddened to report that Chef Gary Rhodes OBE died yesterday evening in Dubai aged only 59. His wife Jennie was by his side. The Dubai-based chef,  who met DRAM publisher Susan Young in Dubai in December 2016, was a world- renowned chef and was also a real gentleman.

A  statement from his family said, ‘The Rhodes family are deeply saddened to announce the passing of beloved husband, father and brother, Gary Rhodes OBE.  The family would like to thank everyone for their support and ask for privacy during this time.’

Susan Young comments, “Gary was truly an inspirational chef who carved out a career for himself throughout the world.  He had lived in Dubai since 2011 and was one of the UK’s best-known chefs and restaurateurs.  Gary won his first Michelin Star at the tender age of 26, and went on to gain many more.”

She continues, “When I met him Dubai in 2017, socially, he was just the nicest man you could have met. Self-deprecating, and very much a family man.  He gave me a lovely interview a few days later.  I think you can get the measure of the man by reading it. ”

“Our thoughts are with Jennie and the family and his friends.”
