A historic Kilmarnock pub is set for a £300,000 makeover subject to a new operator being found to lease it. The investment by Star Pubs & Bars would transform The Howard Arms on the corner of West Shaw Street and High Glen Cairn Street, with the plans for the outside including renovating and painting, a year-round beer garden, and a re-landscaped garden that would feature a spacious patio, seating for 80 and festoon lighting, as well as a covered area.

The Howard Arms’ dated interior would receive a complete revamp, including enlarged windows and a new fireplace and log burner. A new lounge and dining area at the back of the pub would have bi-fold doors opening directly onto the garden.

Said area manager Campbell Dorward, “The plans are really exciting and provide many more reasons for people to visit. The funding is in place, now we just need to find the right person to take over the pub.

“The Howard Arms is ideal for someone who’s experienced in the hospitality trade, knows and loves Kilmarnock and wants to lease a brand new pub they can put their mark on. Refurbishments of this scale don’t come along every day; it’s a great and a rare opportunity.”

Star Pubs & Bars is also open to renaming The Howard Arms, should the new operator wish to.
