No decision yet from ScotGov on self-isolation rule relaxation

The Scottish government has not yet decided whether to follow England in changing the self-isolation rules for people who have been double vaccinated and the under 18s after the UK government announced yesterday that fully vaccinated people in England will not have to self-isolate if a close contact tests positive for Covid from 16 August.

Scotland’s education secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville  has said the government was “looking very seriously” at whether it can make changes and that decisions would be taken “as soon as we can” following calls  for the Scottish government to introduce similar changes north of the border from trade bodies like The Scottish Hospitality Group.

She told the BBC’s Good Morning Scotland programme that any decision would be based on the clinical advice and guidance the government is given.

She also said potentially having different isolation rules for fully vaccinated people was being “actively reviewed” as a potential way of easing staffing pressures in hospitals, schools and other public services.
