Star Pubs & Bars is launching a series of masterclass sessions , ‘Stars of the Future’, in June. Three masterclass events will be taking place in the next year, covering all aspects of how to run a successful and profitable pub business. Open to all Star Pubs & Bars tenants and licensees, operators will be invited to nominate an outstanding member of their team to join a free-to-attend class.
The masterclasses kick off on June 30th and, with the sales of spirits and cocktails on the rise, the first one will be a spirits masterclass that includes a spirits category overview and trends, cocktail making masterclasses and a troubleshooting session.
Run in partnership with Pernod Ricard UK, 10 outstanding pub and bar employees will be able to attend the day-long event in London.
Launched to help operators grow, maintain existing revenue streams, and perfect elements of their business to drive further sales, the masterclass series has ultimately been designed to upskill and develop outstanding team members within the Star Pubs & Bars estate.
Providing training and skills to help attract and retain valued members of staff is of particular importance, with recent ONS data showing that job vacancies in the sector are now 100% higher than pre-Covid.
Operators who show a commitment to training employees also encourage loyalty in a jobseekers’ market, and those who seek development opportunities for their star performers could be more likely to retain staff.
Hance McPherson, Head of Licensee Recruitment at Star Pubs & Bars, said, “Following a tough two years for the on-trade sector, here at Star Pubs & Bars we want to inspire and help operators succeed by showcasing our support – providing free and informative sessions through the ‘Stars of the Future’ programme. The spirits category has generated over £1.7billion in the last 12 weeks and over a quarter of all money spent on drinks in the on-trade is on spirits. We therefore want to make sure operators are making the most out of the category.
“Now more than ever, operators that maximise sales and refine parts of their businesses, whilst providing staff with professional development opportunities, will be putting themselves in a stronger position for the future.”
Star Pubs & Bars will support successful nominees on each masterclass by providing paid for travel, complimentary lunch, and refreshments on the days.
