Vault City Brewing has opened its new taproom and smokehouse, Porty Vault, following on from the success of The Wee Vault which opened in Haymarket last November.

The new Portobello venue serves BBQ food, craft beers, meads, wine, and cider. With a capacity of 42 and 36 taps, the kitchen is headed up by award-winning head chef Darren Lim who has “crafted a unique menu of authentic, American style BBQ” complete with its own specially imported smoker.

The taproom and smokehouse was supported by a crowdfunding campaign that raised over £44,000 from hundreds of beer fans and locals in Portobello- and they were all invited to the launch party.

“We love the vibrancy and personality that Portobello has to offer and we want to play our part in growing the local economy to help the area become the best it can be,” co-founder Steven Smith-Hay said.

“Although our roots are firmly in Portobello, it definitely feels as though there is scope to potentially expand outside of Edinburgh if there is demand.

“However, our focus for the moment is still firmly on what we can achieve here in the capital and we’re just thrilled that more people are joining the sour beer movement.”

Vault City is served in 200 bars, pubs, and taprooms and available in Tesco stores nationwide and has become the supermarket’s best-selling craft beer.
