The Balvenie has announced ‘The Balvenie Scholarship’ – a new partnership between the single malt whisky and Westminster Kingsway College that sees three simultaneous month-long placements at The Balvenie Distillery offered to third year students at the college. The only scholarship to be offered by a brand to college students, placements will span across three different hospitality disciplines – chef, pastry chef and front of house.
Caroline Hands, Senior Brand Manager for The Balvenie said, “The Balvenie is thrilled to announce our sponsorship of scholarships at Westminster Kingsway College this year, an institution known for its excellent success rates. After a tumultuous last few years, we understand and see first hand how hard it has been to recruit people into hospitality roles. The Balvenie strongly believes in preserving and celebrating the role of craftspeople and we are hopeful that initiatives like this scholarship will help foster passion amongst the next generation of professionals and young talent.”
Final year exam results for potential students will be taken into consideration alongside interviews that will take place throughout June and July with the three successful applicants travelling to The Balvenie distillery in Dufftown, Speyside for the month of September where they will be fully immersed in all the single malt whisky has to offer.
The scholarship will culminate with a VIP dinner, at The Balvenie Distillery, at the end of September. Scholarship students will be responsible for the execution of the dinner; a prime opportunity to show off the skills they have developed over the month.
