Aberdeen is about to welcome a new addition to the city in the form of Shapeshifters, a new bar concept offering an “Escape Room & Cocktail Experience”.
Opening this weekend, it is owned by locals Hollie and Gilan Kelly who already have a background in escape games, and developed the new bar concept during lockdown. Shapeshifters explain that it blends a “wicked taste in delicious drinks, creativity and immersive escape games.”
As well as combing mixology and games the couple say that sustainability is also at the heart of what they do. The menu is created with sustainable suppliers in mind and contains seasonal and local ingredients along with a balance between ‘with alcohol’ and ‘low/no alcohol’.
Based on Windmill Brae, just off Union Street, the space had to meet the requirements of creating immersive rooms for those who wanted to play a game, have a cocktail or do both. The architects who were set the challenge of delivering on Shapeshifters requirements were Tinto, who also worked on the Aberdeen steakhouse, Vovem.
The new venue is also taking part in Aberdeen Cocktail Week from the 18th to 24th of October.
