The Fife Arms has released its own limited-edition single cask Scotch Whisky, A Winter’s Dram. Matured in an ex-sherry cask at the Dailuaine Distillery and made in collaboration with whisky expert Dave Broom and Adelphi, it follows on from the blended malt Scotch whisky made for the opening of The Fife Arms whisky bar, Berties, in 2021.
The inaugural release takes its theme from Winter, and features “rich layers of spiced fruit, sweet liquorice, and tingling clove. It is indulgent, soft and deep, designed to welcome those drinking to sit indoors and sip as the snow falls and the darkness creeps.”
Dave Broom says, “‘Winter’ drams are filled with rich dark fruit, mulled spices, marmalade – they smell of a Scottish Christmas – but they can be enjoyed all year round.”
The whisky comes from the Dailuaine distillery, and for much of its life Dailuaine has provided weight and rich sweetness to many famous blends, and because of this quality, has rarely been seen as a single malt.
“It has been bottled at 50.5%, the strength which we feel captures the full effect of the flavours and textures perfectly. It can be enjoyed neat, or with a small drop or two of water” suggests Alex Bruce, Managing Director of Adelphi.
To celebrate the release, The Fife Arms has commissioned designer Bill Amberg to create a bespoke bottle holder with a wrap that includes natural-washed British wool felt, an organic material that has been used for its insulating and shock-absorbing properties for thousands of years. The stitched label is made from ethically responsible vegetable-tanned leather and, in true limited-edition style, each has been hand marked with the bottle’s unique number within the limited edition of 353 drawn from a single cask.
Bill Amberg says, “For the launch of this 14-year-old cask we wanted to design packaging that reflected the combination of The Fife Arms gregarious charm with its delicious warm, wintery whisky and the simple rugged beauty of the Scottish Highlands. The vibrant red vegetable tanned leather and the natural wool felt fit perfectly together in this simple and elegant pack”.
The Fife Arms Single Cask Selection No.1, Dailuaine 14 year old, 50.5%, A Winter’s Dram, is available at Bertie’s Whisky Bar at The Fife Arms and online at The Fife Arms shop priced at £225.00 a bottle which includes the specially commissioned, bespoke bottle holder designed by Bill Amberg.
