The Piper’s Rest in Edinburgh is a TikTok hit thanks to US ghost hunter Kalani Smith who reviewed their deep fried Mars bar and loved it!
The video, which he posted last month, has been viewed over 600,000 times and liked by over 35,000 viewers. He wanted to rate the dish 10 out of 10 but Kalani felt that, as much as he wanted to give it a 10, it was so simple, he could only award a 9.5 out of 10.
Black Rooster also got a visit, racking up 380k views, when the ghost hunter-turned-food-reviewer tried the peri peri chicken giving an impressive 8 out of 10, and over 380k views.
The Horseshoe Inn in Eddleston, near Peebles, was also on the food tour of Scotland and it’s full Scottish received a 9 out of 10 from the new fan of their Stornaway black pudding, bacon and square sausage, with the video watched an impressive 325k times.
Kalani wasn’t such a fan of Haggis giving it 6.5 out of 10, but loved his Irn Bru.
The 25-year-old has nearly 3m followers on TikTok and 65k Youtube subscribers on his ghosthunter channel (and over 10k on his food review channel that he does with his wife). He decided to do food reviews on his trip to the UK and asked his followers to give him recommendations of the best places to eat.
The American reviewed a number of places across the UK including Wagamama in London (rated 8 out of 10 for one course, and 4 out of 10 for the other two), Gordon Ramsay Restaurant also in London (10 out of 10), the barbeque venue Holy Smokes in Belfast (10 out of 10) and a Toby Carvery (5 of 10).
He’s back in the US at the moment but returning later in the year. Since he appears to be a fan of Scotland’s food offering he might be looking for more suggestions!
