The House of Hazelwood has released its third collection of aged and rare whiskies, which honours the Gordon Family’s spirit of adventure.
Hand selected from arguably the greatest inventory of aged Scotch Whisky in the world, the collection features eight unique whiskies that highlight the best in blended malts. Notable among them is the Transatlantic 33-Year-Old Blended Grain Whisky, which combines the finest elements of Scottish and American whisky traditions. Alongside it, the Queen of the Hebrides, a 36-Year-Old Islay Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, offers a rich, peated profile with a strong maritime influence.
Reflecting the House of Hazelwood’s philosophy that whisky is “ready when it’s ready,” this collection includes some rare and irreplaceable bottles. The standout is The Last Trace, a 58-Year-Old Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, with only 65 bottles available worldwide. This whisky has been aged in American White Oak for nearly six decades, making it a significant piece of whisky history.
Jonathan Gibson, Director of House of Hazelwood, explained the selection process, “Given the extensive collection of whiskies laid down by generations of the Gordon family, our challenge is in selecting the right ones. This latest collection takes us on various journeys, from the far-flung destinations reflected by The Silk Traveller, a 44-Year-Old Blended Grain Scotch Whisky inspired by the Silk Road, to more familiar locales with The Garden At Hazelwood, a 47-Year-Old Blended Malt Scotch Whisky with orchard fruit notes.”
The Silk Traveller, is one of the collection’s highlights, promising a sensory experience reminiscent of historical trade routes. Whisky experts Charlie Maclean and Howard Yu praised the collection, with Maclean describing The Last Trace as “one of the most extraordinary whiskies I have ever tasted.”
Each whisky in this collection bridges the past and present, showcasing unique character, history, and production methods. The Old Ways, a 1972 Vintage Single Grain Scotch Whisky, epitomizes this connection, capturing the entrepreneurial spirit of the 1970s whisky-making era.
The final two whiskies in the collection are notably bold. A Minute to Midnight, a 45-Year-Old Blended Scotch Whisky, is a rich sherry bomb best savoured in quiet moments. The Hazelwood Highlander, a 33-Year-Old Blended Scotch Whisky, evokes the lush rolling hills of the Scottish countryside and serves as the sibling to The Lowlander from the second collection.
This collection is divided into two ranges: The Charles Gordon Collection and The Legacy Collection. Prices range from £1,200 for The Hazelwood Highlander to £6,000 for The Last Trace, reflecting the rarity and craftsmanship of each bottle.
The House of Hazelwood’s third collection is available exclusively from their website and select luxury retailers. The 2024 Collection will be rolled out internationally throughout the year, reaching markets in Germany, Italy, France, and Taiwan, with the US and other parts of Asia to follow in 2025.
