Ramen Dayo has opened a new three-storey venue in Glasgow city centre, bringing its popular Japanese ramen concept back to where it began. The new site, located at 38 Renfield Street, officially opened this week.

The venue is the brand’s largest to date and has been designed in the style of a late-night Yōkochō alley, taking inspiration from the backstreets of Tokyo. The ground floor features a bar, while the first floor recreates a traditional Tokyo alleyway, complete with authentic chochin lanterns, vintage enamel signs and Japanese light boxes sourced from the Shōwa era. A second bar is also located on this level.

Upstairs on the second floor, three private Izakaya-style dining rooms will open later this year. Each will seat up to 10 guests and overlook Renfield Street, aiming to cater for group dining and festive bookings.

The menu will mirror that of Ramen Dayo’s Ashton Lane restaurant, with a line-up of nine ramen bowls alongside rice dishes, gyozas, sides, and handmade Japanese desserts. The team will also continue their focus on provenance and quality ingredients, with regular specials planned.

Owner Paul Beveridge said, “We are super excited to be back in the city center, where it all started. We really hope to see some of the daily customers we used to see on Queen Street.”

Ramen Dayo first launched in 2016 as a pop-up ramen cart near Glasgow Central station, before opening a permanent site on Queen Street the following year. The business later moved to Ashton Lane in the city’s West End in 2018, where it has continued to grow a loyal customer base.
