Glasgow cocktail bar Tabac in Mitchell Lane is expanding to the city’s Southside, with a new venue set to open in Strathbungo later this month.

The new site, called Tabacs, will take over the former Bungo Bar and Kitchen premises on Nithsdale Road and, while Tabac has built a strong reputation as a date-night destination in the city centre, the new venue aims to be a hub for the local community.

It will open from morning through to late evening, offering coffee, brunch, dinner, drinks, and weekend DJs. The menu has a strong Spanish influence, featuring tapas plates, charcuterie boards, and weekly Sunday paella and sangria lunches.

A downstairs events space will also be available for private hire and local collaborations, with plans in place for regular DJ sets and bank holiday events.

Ross Jordan, previously Assistant Manager at Tabac, takes on the role of General Manager. He said, “Tabacs is the community’s bar as much as it is ours. We’ll continue to talk to locals to find out what they really want, and then it’s up to us to make it happen.

“With the food offering, community focus, DJs, and the unmistakable Tabac energy, we hope the new venue will become a true Southside local from day one.”

He is joined by Assistant GM Luca McKenna, who added, “Tabac always was my go-to spot for cocktails, then it became somewhere I could express my passion for drinks and explore creative ideas. Now we get to bring this to the Southside. Strathbungo has an incredible community – we can’t wait to add to it.”

Tabacs is expected to open in late November.
