Glasgow pub The Gate has launched a new cocktail menu inspired by the history and character of the Gallowgate and the city’s East End.

The menu, Tales of The Gallowgate, has been introduced as the business highlights more than 200 years of pub trading at 251 Gallowgate, where, according to the venue, the first landlord, James Reid, took on the lease in 1826.

The Gate has operated from the site for the past seven years and said the new list celebrates the people, stories and culture associated with the surrounding area. Developed in-house by the bar team, the menu includes references to the Barras, Billy Connolly, and local street figure Robert the Robot. There’s even a margarita collaboration with Ho Le Fook chilli which they say is a must-try.

Owner Andy Gemmell said, “251 Gallowgate has been bringing people together for generations, and that means something to us. When we created this menu, it was important that it respected that history while still feeling unmistakably like The Gate.

“Our team here are incredibly creative. Every drink has been developed in-house, rooted in flavour and storytelling. We’ve built our cocktail experiences inspired by the street outside our door.

“I’ve fallen in love with this part of Glasgow. It has grit, humour and heart. I’m genuinely excited about its future, blending old-school character with a new-wave energy. We’re proud to be part of that evolution. We love pubs; we love this city, and if you leave feeling better than when you walked in, even better.”

The venue said the launch reflects its wider positioning as a modern Scottish pub, combining a traditional pub setting with a cocktail-led drinks offer.
