The Holyrood 9a in Edinburgh has been announced as a finalist for the Molson Coors Champion Beer Pub of Scotland prize at the 2014 DRAM Scottish Licensed Trade Awards, which take place at The Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow on Monday July 7th.
The Molson Coors Champion Beer Pub of Scotland award seeks to to recognise a pub that really champions good beer and offers an excellent craft range. Each of the finalists pride themselves on being one of Scotland’s top beer pubs, actively promote responsible beer consumption and regularly introduce new craft beer for their customers. A good cellar and well trained staff were deemed necessary by our judges for this award.
The Holyrood 9a has 25 draught beer lines, eight of which feature regularly rotating craft labels. Regular beer training sessions are held for staff, who are encouraged to try each new product as it arrives. Brewery visits are frequently organised, and a staff Beer Club has even been formed. The bar also hosts beer launches, tap takeovers and ‘meet the brewer’ sessions, working closely with local breweries to put these events in place.
The awards, dubbed the licensed trade ‘Oscars,’ are organised by licensed trade magazine, DRAM. Now in their 19th year, they are the longest-established awards of their kind in Scotland, recognising excellence in Scotland’s bar, restaurant and hospitality industries.
