Scotland’s restaurants have been celebrating success after the The Michelin Guide 2023 unveiled its results for this year.
In Glasgow, Cail Bruich on Great Western Road has been awarded a Michelin star for the third time, first receiving the honour in 2021. Unalome by Graeme Cheevers on Kelvingrove Street also held onto its star rating, having earned it in 2022.
Edinburgh is now home to five Michelin-starred restaurants, as Timberyard and Heron join The Kitchin, Martin Wishart, and Condita, all of which have retained their ratings.
The Michelin Guide 2023 includes Cail Bruich, The Cellar, Condita, Glenturret Lalique, The Kitchin, Loch Bay, Number One, Peat Inn, Martin Wishart, and Unalome by Graeme Cheevers, each boasting one Michelin star.
A second star, reserved for “refined and inspired” cuisine, is currently held only by Restaurant Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles.
The Bib Gourmand rating, which applauds restaurants offering quality food at moderate prices, was awarded to several other venues including, in Glasgow, Celentano’s, Ka Pao, Ox and Finch, and Monadh Kitchen in Bearsden. In Edinburgh Noto and The Scran & Scallie (also by Tom Kitchin) are celebrating their Bib Gourmand.
Several of these restaurants took to social media to celebrate their achievements.
Ox and Finch expressed their delight, stating: “9-in-a-row! An announcement we will never be tired of making: Ox and Finch has retained its Bib Gourmand in 2023, marking a 9th year in the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland. We’re delighted to share the news and applaud our team for their hard work in achieving this honour.”
Ka Pao, which operates under the same ownership as Ox and Finch, also shared the fantastic news, writing: “Michelin 2023! After a very big year and a lot of hard graft from our super team, we are thrilled to have retained Ka Pao Glasgow’s Bib Gourmand Award for a second year! We are so chuffed to be included in the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland for 2023. Cheers Team!”
