A new gastropub has opened on the former site of Bru on Glasgow’s Dumbarton Road in Broomhill called Birdhouse Bar & Kitchen. Ian McAnally, who also own Tokyo Joes in Greenock, took over the unit in December before closing briefly last month and relaunching.  This is Ian’s first foray into the Glasgow hospitality scene after he moved to Glasgow from Ayrshire in August last year. In fact, he now stays just around the corner from the Birdhouse.

Ian says, “The place is looking lovely since the refurb. It has its own identity and has that gastro pub look and feel about it. We’ve introduces Chesterfield button back seating, antique furniture and a bar created from salvaged and reclaimed wood.

“All our food is made from scratch. Our head chef was previously the head chef at No.16 on Byres Road, so we offer really high-quality food.

“The aim is to be a friendly local which offers something for everyone. We’ve also supported staff who lost their jobs due to the closure of the Virgin Hotel in Glasgow with our GM and two chefs coming from there. It’s great to have amazing bars down this end of Dumbarton Road and we’ve had great support from Mark and the team at our neighbouring bar, The Thornwood.”

The new venue serves brunch, sharing plates and classic pub dishes and is also operating as a bar serving a selection of wines, spirits, cocktails and craft beers till midnight.
