Glasgow pasta restaurant, Il Pastaio, from the team behind Devil of Brooklyn, Tabac and The Last Bookstore, has reopened with a new look and a new head chef –  who features on the restaurant’s new name, Il Pastaio by Otello.

Head chef, Otello Calvert, rose to fame on TikTok with his Inverness-based food truck, Tagliotello, and most recently, he ran a pop-up restaurant in Great Western Road’s Serendipity West.

His new menu will feature a selection of authentic fresh pasta, antipasto and desserts, with highlights including Tuscan fiesolana, genovese from Naples, Sardinian style mussels, and agilo e olio. The restaurant will also be creating weekly specials, have gluten free and vegan options, as well as a  cocktail menu.

Otello Calvert said, “This opportunity to head up Il Pastaio and run my menu is wildly exciting. I’m going to pour everything I’ve learned during 15 years in hospitality and customer service with a team who I know are as enthusiastic as I am to do something great.

“I’ve worked in hospitality since I was 14, but I officially became a chef when I launched Tagliotello in 2021. I thought the best way for me to be successful was to pick one food and do the best I could with it, and I picked the food I love the most – pasta.”

II Pastaio by Otello, situated on 80 St Vincent Street, opens today (Friday, 10 January).
