There’s more than one festival on Glasgow Green this summer and it comes in the form of a micro-festival, On The Green, operated by Whistler On The Green which sits directly across the road from the TRNSMT festival site.

Whistler’s Bar manager Kat Herron explains, “We created On The Green last year as an experiment and a bit of fun, expanding what we do in the pub across the road.

“It went down really well so we’re taking it all up a small step this year, with a stage big enough for live bands – that’s the really exciting part.

“We’re pretty buzzing with the level of artists who have clicked with what we are doing and bought in to the idea enough to come play for us.

“At the end of the day we are a wee old boozer on the very edge of the Green, which over the last few years has been slowly and painstakingly transformed into a classic pub offering exceptional food and a programme of entertainment curated very carefully for our friends and supporters.

“It’s really exciting to grow that beyond the walls – and our wee couple of outside tables – and plant our Whistler flag in that corner of Glasgow Green to showcase the music we love hearing in the bar.”

The line-up sees a surprising spread of artists play what is essentially a brand new debut event – from Glasgow songwriter and artist John McLaughlin to one of the true global names of the 1970s disco explosion, Odyssey.

Kat said, “We’re really happy with the line-up we have been able to pull together – with Craig Charles headlining Saturday and all sorts of Scottish funk and soul icons plus Odyssey, the real deal artist behind Native New Yorker.

“Then on Sunday we head down that Country Road with One Night In Nashville topping the bill – if you don’t know them think the absolute best big anthem country covers you have ever heard.

“Plus Johnny Mac and the Faithful who are one of Scotland’s favourite musical exports and a live act you HAVE to see.

“We have loads more going on and we are making sure prices are reasonable because let’s face it life is tough enough right now.

“Everyone knows we are passionate about food so there will be some incredible stuff on offer on that front too.”

The mini-fest takes place across the weekend of May 24 and 25.
