Bunnahabhain has released the 2025 edition of its 12 Year Old Cask Strength single malt, offering whisky lovers a new small-batch expression of the Islay distillery’s signature unpeated, sherried style.
Matured in coastal warehouses on Islay and bottled at 56.4% ABV, the latest edition draws on predominantly second-fill Oloroso sherry casks, with a balance of first-fill and refill casks. It marks a return for the popular expression following a one-year hiatus in 2024.
Master Blender Julieann Fernandez said, “After a hiatus in 2024, Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old Cask Strength is back by popular demand. This whisky is everything that the distillery is known for: unpeated, sherried, and full of intense flavour.
“One of the greatest joys for me as a Master Blender is tasting a whisky in its purest form directly from cask and it brings me real pleasure to be able to share that experience with our community of whisky lovers. Not every whisky stands up to Cask Strength, but Bunnahabhain is absolutely made for it.
“This release differs from the previous three; I chose predominantly second-fill Oloroso sherry casks, balanced with first fill and refill, to reveal a nuanced, distillate-led profile. Expect layers of coastal malt, gentle spice, and subtle sherry influence, with flavours of malty sweetness, dried apricot, and hazelnut, leading to a long finish of oak spice and maritime freshness.”
