Big Manny’s Pizza owners open Durty Murphy’s Irish Pub in Aberdeen

Big Manny’s Pizza owners have opened Durty Murphy’s Irish Pub on Aberdeen’s Union Street this week. The new pub takes over the former McGinty’s site, which operated for more than 16 years before Aberdeen-based McGinty’s Group sold the venue to Big Manny’s in July.

The building has undergone a full interior refurbishment over recent months, including a new bar and restaurant layout. The team is introducing a fresh food offering and is promising live music, live sport, and “Murphy’s on tap.” Durty Murphy’s becomes the company’s second Irish bar in the city, joining O’Malley’s on Crown Street, which Big Manny’s took over last year after converting the former Café D’Ag.

Big Manny’s Pizza was launched in October 2020 by brothers Phillip and Ashley Adams, along with chef Calum Wright. Their original base was within The Adam Lounge & Hawthorn Bar on Holburn Street. By 2023 the business had expanded across Aberdeen, adding sites near Pittodrie Stadium and at Codona’s Amusement Park, before signing its first franchise agreement to open in Inverurie – the brand’s first venture outside the city.

McGinty’s was the inaugural venue for the McGinty’s Group when it launched in 2009. The group has since grown into another of the North East’s leading independent hospitality operators, running venues including The Stag, No.10 Bar and Restaurant, and Ferryhill House Hotel. Its new food hall, market, and events concept, Flint, is due to open soon.

Brothers bring spirit of Ireland to Aberdeen!
