CITY centre bars in Glasgow will now be allowed to stay open until 1am thanks to new licensing laws.
Council bosses say they will introduce the plan as a result of “changing socialising habits”. The move will bring Glasgow in line with Edinburgh.
Around 225 premises within the M8, Clyde and High Street to east bordered area are expected to benefit from the change, just in time for New Year celebrations.
Glasgow City Council say they don’t expect all bars entitled to do so, to take up the offer.
Other proposals to be considered include relaxing the 10pm curfew for outside drinking at venues and the withdrawal of early morning licences for pubs claiming to serve alcohol to shift workers and market traders.
Casinos offering an after-hours club with alcohol served until 6am face a clampdown, whilst premises outside the city centre that provide entertainment until 3am, faxing a clamp down.
