For the second year in a row Celtic Sponsor, Magners, are teaming up with Celtic FC and the Tennent’s Training Academy to deliver an employability programme at helping long-term unemployed people get back into work.
The project will kick off on 1st September and run until 20th November, with the £19,000 from the Goals for Charity initiative going to the funding of the project.
It is targeted at adults 25 and over who are registered unemployed, and is a 12 week project focused on developing both front and back of house hospitality skills.
Delivered by Celtic FC Foundation and Tennents Training Academy, the project allows participants to benefit from employer talks, work experience, recruitment days, motivational speakers and sessions covering; skills and qualities, job searching, CVs, application forms, interview techniques, work ethic, self-branding and work place expectations.
Cherie Carr, Graduate of the Magners Employability Programme 2015 explains how the programme helped her. She said: “After completing the course in 2015, I gained so much more confidence and courage to go out and look for work. My time at the Tennent’s Training Academy led me to voluntary work at a café in Ruchazie before applying for college. I’m now going on to study for an NQ5 in Professional Cooking later this year and hope to set up my own catering business. For anyone unemployed at the moment, I can’t recommend the employability programme highly enough, I got a huge amount out of it both personally and professionally.”
Last years project was a roaring success and saw 10 of 12 of the attendees gain employment or move into further education as a result of the experience.
George Kyle, Head of Sponsorship for Magners and PR for the TTA, said: “When we launched the Magners Employability Project our aim was that we would make a positive impact on the lives of participants, and stories like Cherie’s are testament to the fact that we’ve achieved this. The level of support and training we’re able to provide in partnership with the guys at Celtic and the TTA is first class and we’re looking forward to delivering the programme once again in 2016”
