I was very sad to hear that Billy Dunn has died at the age of 90. His death on the 14th of September leaves the world a far duller place. He was a great supporter of the Scottish licensed trade and one of its true characters. We gave him a Lifetime Achievement award in 2003 and it was well deserved.
Billy is best known for his involvement in his family soft drink business Dunn & Moore, which evolved into Dunns. He was the front-facing member of the family who could charm the birds off the trees. Over the years, Billy honed his skills as a great storyteller. When he talked, everyone listened.
As well as supporting the trade Billy was a former Director and Vice Chair of Clyde FC.
I was pleased to hear that he recently celebrated his 90th with a great family party and indeed was on the golf course a week before he died. He certainly lived his life to the full.
A full obituary will be in the next issue of DRAM. Our thoughts are with all his family.
