Edrington to invest £100m at the Macallan Distillery

Edrington, the company behind The Macallan and Famous Grouse,  has revealed plans to create “the world’s finest distillery” at the Macallan Estate in Speyside.  The company will invest £100m  building a new visitor centre and distillery, which will be designed and built by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners.  An Edrington spokesman said the design would “compliment the natural beauty of the area and The Macallan Estate”.Ian Curle, chief executive of Edrington said, “Our plan for the estate includes a contemporary distillery that embodies the international style of The Macallan and builds on the brand’s tradition of quality and craftsmanship. Edrington also own Highland Park and Cutty Sark.

The new distillery and visitor centre is expected to be open in 2017, although plans are still subject to planning permission.
