Mercat Grill to run 2nd year of doggy fun

The Mercat Grill in Whitecraig, East Lothian has launched a Facebook competition to find Scotland’s most attractive dogs in the run up to its second Doggy Fun Day in October.

The competition – which can be found here – will look for 5 different winners; the dog that looks most like its owner, dog with the waggiest tail, prettiest pooch, best dressed dog and dog with the funniest expression.

Last year’s doggy weekend raised over £500 for Edinburgh Dog & Cat Home, and the bar and restaurant is hoping to have similar, if not more, success this year. The competition starts this week and will close on 30th September.

Graham Blaikie, owner of the Mercat Grill, said, “We are a very dog friendly pub, so the success of last year’s made us want to do it again. We’ve had doggy coffee mornings and a Santa Paws day. I would love to have a dog but with my working life in the industry it’s not possible, so I live vicariously through the customers’ dogs!”

Entrants simply submit a photo or video via the Mercat Grill’s Facebook page, paying £3 per category by texting EDCH15 £3 to 70070 or paying staff at the venue. The winning dogs will be those with the most ‘Likes’ and will be announced at the Doggy Fun Day on 1st October.

On the 29th Sept, the Mercat Grill will run its doggy quiz from 7:30 until 10pm, costing £5 per entry which includes a tasty buffet for pups and people. On Saturday 1st October, the bar and restaurant will run a free doggy fun day from 1pm, which will have agility competitions, Facebook awards ceremony and doggy stalls selling various dog related products. Local radio station, East Coast FM will be broadcasting live from the event.

The Mercat Grill has raised over £1500 this year through dog-related events.
