Tennent’s Lager has created a series of retro video games to launch at T in The Park and will be touring selected pubs with the arcade consoles from the end of July.

The series is inspired from the childhood Scottish games like ‘chappy’ and ‘wallie’. Characters from its Wellpark animated series feature in the games, such as in Chap-Door-Run, pub philosopher Bobby faces an assault course of obstacles as he makes his way to safety (the pub) after chapping his neighbour’s door, collecting points in the form of pints of Tennent’s Lager on his way. In the Wallie, one player is to kick the ball against a wall.

Four Barcade games will be previewed at T in the Park, before touring Scottish pubs and bars from 25 July. Customers in participating bars receive a token to play when they buy a drink.

Paul Condron, marketing director at Tennent’s said: “Lots of us look back fondly on the days before smartphones and Facebook, when we’d entertain ourselves outside playing games like Wallie and Chappy. So we thought it would be fun for punters to re-live the nostalgia of younger days and have a bit of a laugh as part of the latest Wellpark series.”

The schedule of the pubs the games will be at will be released on Tennent’s social media channels on Facebook and Twitter.
