Caledonian Brewery has hit the history books to concoct its new black beer-inspired lager, Dark Light.
As its name suggests, Dark Light contrasts dark malty hops with light crisp lager. It is inspired by Schwarzbier or ‘black beers’, which were originally brewed in southern Germany dating back to the middle ages.
Like the traditional Schwarzbier, Dark Light is a medium-bodied yet refreshing malt-accented dark brew with a mild, bittersweet taste.
Craig Steven, Beer Manager and Beer Academy Sommelier at the Edinburgh-based brewery, said, “Dark Light is our fresh and modern take on the historic Schwarzbiers of southern Germany.
“It really does have it all – some fruity tones initially, followed by clean bittersweet notes of dark malt, chocolate coffee and vanilla, within a medium bodied, creamy mouth-feel and a crisp dry finish.”
Dark Light is bottled at 4.7% ABV and is available in the on-trade from 1st October.
