Roving artisan food and drink festival North Hop is motoring along to the Macdonald Aviemore Resort in Aviemore later this month, and will have an “On the Road” theme with exhibitors pitching up in a variety of four-wheeled stands.
North Hop Aviemore takes place on Saturday, 25 February across one afternoon and one evening sessions and will showcase a host of top Scottish and UK food and drinks producers.
This includes Walter Micklethwait, Channel 4’s 2015 Shed of the Year winner, who will be serving his First Edition Inshriach Speyside Dry Gin from a rustic gin truck fashioned from a vintage horse box.
Micklethwait is joined by Poco Prosecco, a vintage Italian Piaggio Ape van that will dispense fizz on tap up in the resort’s Osprey Arena, while Edinburgh-based Linton & Co will serve artisan coffees, Scottish teas, brownies and other sweet treats from a black Citroen H van called Bernard.
Popular Edinburgh street food company ShrimpWreck will also pitch up in their colourful food truck, and Two Thirsty Men will operate a bar from inside a vintage Land Rover.
There will also be a bespoke range of craft beer, gin and cider created especially for the festival, inclining a new Festival Brew from Fife-based St Andrews Brewing Co, a Festival Cider from Dunbar’s own Thistly Cross Cider and a Festival Gin from Dunnet Bay Distillers in Caithness.
Founded by Gairloch-based Michelle Russell (above), the first North Hop took place in Inverness in the summer of 2014 and has since been held in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
Russell said, “North Hop is for anyone who is passionate about discovering new food and drink, as well as new music.
“We’re excited that it’s all happening in a location like Aviemore because it means people will get to appreciate the surroundings as much as what’s happening indoors.
“Our exhibitors come from all over Scotland but there’s a real buzz around the Highlands at the moment in terms of exciting new food and drink products.”
