Steven Samson, General Manager of the Merchant, on West George Street in Glasgow, just completed an epic virtual journey as part of a team of ten who covered 590 miles to raise money for the families of their Stonegate Pub Company colleagues tragically taken by COVID-19. Together they raised an amazing £12,000, outstripping their original target of £10,000.
The group, dubbed the Aspirations Eight, travelled the equivalent distance between all their pubs, which would have taken them from Glasgow to Blackpool, snaking through the UK via Birmingham, to London, before finishing up in Luton, where the company’s head office is located.
Through a cascade of run and donate nominations, more than 700 people took part, covering nearly 4,000 miles.
Steven, pictures on Day 4, said, “The response from all of our teams was just incredible! To have so many people get involved with us was so uplifting. Everyone was so generous with their time and with their money to help the families of their colleagues – it was very touching.
“I did a lot of my miles from my garden which was interesting! There was a lot of mileage to cover in a reasonably small space, but I managed. I did spice things up with some fancy dress and having the support of the wider team all contributing their miles kept me going.”
