Manorview Hotel Group employees have not let lockdown dampen their team spirit as they have just completed a Route 66 inspired challenge to raise funds for their longstanding charity partner,  Wish Upon A Star Scotland, which is committed to granting wishes to children living with a life-threatening illness.

The big-hearted team started the challenge which they documented on the Manorview social channels as well as their own to help raise awareness and drive donations, on 26 January with 50 team members participating and finished up yesterday. The team goal was a fundraising target of  £90,000, and they aimed to do t his by virtually covering the distance of the iconic USA road, Route 66, which covers the distance from Chicago to California, some 4,000km.

The team raised sponsorship and donations, and over the  14 day period walked, ran and cycled in their local areas. Each day, they had to cover a minimum of 285km (177 miles) to complete the challenge on time.

Scott Macintyre, head of operational development regularly leads the company’s charity efforts. He said,  “We wanted to do more than raise money for When You Wish Upon a Star, so we asked them to give us a target that would represent a significant milestone. Raising £90,000 means we can send an entire plane of families with sick children to meet Santa in Lapland in December 2021.

“It’s a big goal, but we have an amazing team and we’re going to do everything we can to make it happen.

“As well as raising funds for an amazing cause we knew this activity would motivate the team at a really challenging time.  We’re thinking of all of our friends in hospitality right now and trying to stay as motivated and as we can as we navigate through Lockdown 3.0.”

Judith King, Scotland regional fundraiser for Wish Upon A Star Scotland added, “Our Manorview Wish granters are simply amazing; having had the honour of working with the team since 2017 they have continued to show incredible support to our important Wish granting work throughout Scotland.

“From various fundraising events to the now-famous Disney Busby Tea Party with our families, Manorview has given the gift of magical memory-making for our Wish children and we can’t thank them enough for their determination, passion and drive to make this happen.

“A Lapland Wish will give our families the chance to come together, have fun and make everlasting memories. I am so proud to have the Manorview family at the heart of our Wish granting work in Scotland and I wish them well for their remaining days on the Route 66 challenge.”
