Lagg Distillery in Arran are celebrating the fifth anniversary of their very first middle cut, which delivered the spirit to Cask Number 1, a Sherry Butt reserved exclusively for members of the Lagg Cask Society.
Lagg Distillery is the sister of independently owned Lochranza Distillery which was established at the north end of Arran in 1995 and produce Arran Single Malt. The building of the new distillery and its visitor centre was completed in 2019, when they opened their doors for the very first time to customers.
Five years on, they have been reflecting on a challenging and rewarding journey with Distillery Manager Graham Omand.
They distillery describes how, almost one year to the day of the first middle cut, the COVID-19 pandemic struck, layering multiple complications into their much-anticipated plans. Despite this, they persevered and released their inaugural batches in August 2022.
A whirlwind year later, they released their Core Range bottlings – the LAGG Single Malt Kilmory and Corriecravie editions – in the Summer of 2023, and in the same year, were awarded Scottish Whisky Distillery of the Year by the Scottish Whisky Awards, as well as ‘Excellence in Branding’ and the 2023 Design & Packaging Supreme Champion at the International Spirits Challenge.
This year projects include hosting the 2024 Arran Whisky Festival a the end of June, a LAGG Single Malt Collaboration with Bute Smokehouse, and a Distillery-exclusive cider made from their first harvest of apples at Lagg.
