WEST Brewery has launched their latest creation, Berliner Weisse, a light, sour and refreshing beer as they celebrate their 18th birthday at their home in the Templeton Building on Glasgow Green.
Matt Muno, Managing Director said, “For our 18th birthday on Glasgow Green we wanted to make a tribute to Glasgow’s heritage, for the design of the can we drew inspiration from the building’s facade to create the ‘The Templeton Collection’ ”. Berliner Weisse is the second limited edition beer to be released as part of the collection.
“Our Berliner Weisse is a nod to its German roots, and has a storied past that dates back to the 17th century.
“Its popularity soared in the early 19th century, with over 700 breweries across Germany crafting this unique style. Today, only a select few keep the tradition alive, and WEST Brewery is proud to be among them.
“Our Berliner Weisse pays homage to its roots, capturing the vibrant, tangy essence that made it a favourite among Napoleon’s soldiers who dubbed it as ‘Champagne of the North’.
“Traditionally, Berliner Weisse is served draught with a ‘schuss’, or syrup, to balance its delightful sourness. WEST Brewery offers a choice of three syrups: raspberry, pineapple, and passionfruit. It offers a modern summer twist to a regular draught beer.
James Templeton from Paisley commissioned the Templeton Building in 1888 for his carpet factory. The design of the factory was inspired by the late medieval Palazzo Ducale (Doge’s Palace) in Venice. And the facade’s flamboyant glazed brick, glossy enamel tiles, red brick, and terracotta mirror the Oriental-influenced patterns of the carpets he produced. His success led to producing carpets for luxury liners like the ‘Titanic’.
