Nostalgia by the bowlful is hitting bars and bottle shops across the UK this week as Vault City launches its ‘cereal milk’ beer, Cereal Spooner.
Made to taste like the sweet milk at the bottom of your bowl of cereal, with fresh strawberries and raspberries, Steven Smith-Hay, Vault City’s co-founder said, “The words ‘sour’ and ‘milk’ don’t often go well together but we’ve taken inspiration from the sweet milk at the bottom of your bowl for our latest release. Paired with fresh Scottish strawberries and raspberries, with an outrageously creamy, milky mouthfeel – this is nostalgia by the bowlful.”
The term was coined by Christina Tosi chef and founder of Milk Bar (previously known as Momofuku Milk Bar); a chain of dessert parlours and bakeries in the United States. Christina came up with the idea of steeping some of her favourite cereals in milk, allowing flavours to infuse and create a delicious blend. The popularity of the sweet treat caught the eye of the Vaulty City brewers in Portobello and, from there, Cereal Spooner was born.
It’s been a big year for Vault City, along with their recent purchase of a new brewery with the capacity to produce over 10 million litres of beer each year, Luca Lorenzoni, and Martin Monro – who were among those behind the growth of brands such as Anheuser-Busch InBev, Camden Town Brewery, Northern Monk and Rekorderlig – joined the brewer.
