Deanston Distillery, the world’s first certified organic Scotch whisky since 2000, has released the latest addition to its pioneering range of organic single malts – 2002 Vintage Organic American Oak.
This release has been fully matured in organic re-charred American Oak casks, crafted from 100% organic Scottish barley, sourced from Scottish farmers who practice sustainable, pesticide-free agriculture, and the barley has been processed at an organic maltings facility. Distilled during a uniquely brief production window immediately following the distillery’s silent season, the organic new-make spirit is the very first liquid to pass through the stills.
Bottled at cask strength 49.7% ABV, this non-chill filtered whisky contains no added colouring and it has already earned a Gold medal in the International Wine and Spirit Competition 2024 with a score of 95 points in the Cask Strength category.
Andrew Waite, Head of Distilleries at Deanston, said,“At Deanston, our commitment goes beyond crafting exceptional whisky—we are dedicated to creating whisky that is better for the planet and our local community. Since earning certification from the Organic Food Federation in April 2000, we have become pioneers in organic Scotch whisky making and are proud to be one of the distilleries leading the way in showcasing its craft.
“As a whisky distillery, when it comes to sustainability and supporting sustainable practices, we hold ourselves to the highest standards, ensuring our environmental impact is as low as possible. Every drop of this new release is crafted from 100% organic Scottish barley, sourced from a select group of Scottish farms that share our dedication to quality in both ingredients and production. The result is an outstanding modern classic: notes of vanilla and caramel intertwine with the sweetness of honey and the rich warmth of oak, creating a truly delicious whisky tasting experience. But this whisky is more than just a delightful dram; matured for 20 years, it’s also one of the oldest organic Scotch whiskies available globally today.
“Our organic whisky production is limited by our commitment to quality and the constraints of a very small production window after our silent season. This means our organic whiskies, including this new 2002 Vintage Organic American Oak release, will always be limited in quantity and highly sought after. With only 2,826 bottles available worldwide, this release is set to be in high demand.”
